Marc Friedman
Senior Executive Coach
Marc Friedman brings nearly five decades of experience as a lawyer, law firm leader, strategist, and executive coach to his work with attorneys and other senior professionals. A former Dentons partner and law firm managing partner, Marc has spent more than a decade coaching lawyers, law firm leaders, and professionals across accounting, medicine, technology, finance, education, law enforcement, and entrepreneurship.
Marc works with clients on leadership, management, career development, business development, communication, and the challenges that come with operating in demanding professional environments. His approach is grounded in firsthand experience. Having led lawyers, managed a firm, developed clients, and built a legal career of his own, he understands many of the pressures his clients are working through and brings a practical perspective to helping them move forward.
He is particularly well known for his work in business development. Marc helps lawyers identify an approach that fits their strengths, develop market strategies, prepare for important client meetings, and build the habits needed to grow relationships over time. His coaching has produced significant results, including one lawyer who increased annual originations from approximately $200,000 to $4.4 million and another who built a book of business from zero to more than $4 million.
Marc also works closely with law firm leaders and senior professionals on leadership development, succession, mentoring, organizational effectiveness, and career transitions. Rather than relying on a standard coaching formula, he works with clients to develop plans around their individual goals and stays closely involved as they put those plans into practice, providing candid feedback and serving as a trusted sounding board along the way.
Communication and presentation skills are another important part of Marc’s work. He has published multiple articles on public speaking and coaches professionals on clarity, presence, preparation, and audience engagement, particularly when the stakes are high.
Marc holds a B.A. in Philosophy from The Johns Hopkins University and a J.D., with honors, from The George Washington University, where he served as an editor of the Law Review. He later clerked for a judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals and completed additional training in human relations at Fairleigh Dickinson University and coaching programs co-offered by Harvard Medical School.
He is an active member of the Institute of Coaching and the International Coaching Federation. Marc’s leadership experience also includes serving as president of an international trade association, where he worked with professionals across numerous countries and cultures.
